Due to materials and supply chain issues, Peoria had to dip into reserves in the amount of $130,000 to finish a project to repair the Council Chambers, located in the Peoria Municipal Complex at 84th Avenue and Monroe Street.
The $497,000 project was previously approved by the City Council as part of Peoria’s capital improvement program.
“Like many other capital projects afflicted by hyperinflation and construction market challenges, this project also finds itself underfunded,” said Architectural Services Manager Ed Striffler.
Improvements include comprehensive repairs and replacements of the Council Chambers tile roof, red metal fascia and gutters, synthetic stucco soffits, and building joint sealants.
Council approved the additional funds, March 22, which will allow the project to proceed with construction in early May, sufficiently ahead of the summer monsoon season, Striffler said.
This project follows a similar effort on the Peoria Main Library completed in 2018.
Striffler said the systems have deteriorated due to harsh climate, either reaching the end of their useful life or requiring significant repair to continue their protection of the building.
The project is part of a planned series of roof replacements at the Municipal Complex. Roofs already replaced include the Technology Center, Municipal Court, and the Main Library.
