Peoria councilwoman says police department is understaffed, contradicting city’s stance

Peoria Councilwoman Denette Dunn challenged the police department’s statement that the department’s sworn officer personnel is fully staffed during Tuesday’s meeting.

Dunn contends the department is down as much as 20% with sworn officers.

This issue arose out of a consent agenda item allocating $4.3 million of federal COVID-19 relief funds to public safety. The item was pulled to the regular agenda by Dunn and Councilman Michael Finn.
