West Valley police struggle to find new recruits

West Valley police departments are digging and scratching to uncover solid talent from a base of potential employees that seems to have dwindled over the years.

Recruiters are going to great lengths — some traveling to places such as Texas and Chicago — to help spot skills needed to tackle a law enforcement job in the region.

Officials hope their sweat and effort pays off. Most recruiters want to gain quality assets while not lowering standards to capture more interest in positions.
