Pedestrians in the street put themselves, others in danger
“A. Runner” wrote in the Dec. 18 issue of The Sun City West Independent that some cyclists and car drivers yell at them as they walk or run in the road. They ask for civility and ask that residents note that we are asked to share the road by signage here in Sun City West.
However, I think we all need to be reminded that Arizona law (28-796) states regarding pedestrians on roadways: “If sidewalks are provided, a pedestrian shall not walk along and on an adjacent roadway.”
Walkers and runners do not have right to be in the street if there is a sidewalk. Cyclists and drivers are annoyed because the pedestrians and runners in the street are putting themselves, and the cyclists in danger as well as breaking the law.

That said, let’s be courteous to our neighbors by neither shouting at them nor by forcing cars and cyclists to move toward oncoming traffic.
