Pacific storm strengthens into a hurricane far off the coast of Mexico

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Simon has strengthened into a hurricane in the Pacific, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday.
The storm was hundreds of 235 miles (380 kilometers) south of western Mexico's port city of Manzanillo.
Maximum sustained winds were around 75 mph (120 kph). It was moving west-northwest at 6 mph (9 kph). It’s expected to turn northwest early Friday and north on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds were around 75 mph (120 kph). It was moving west-northwest at 6 mph (9 kph). It’s expected to turn northwest early Friday and north on Saturday.
Forecasters say the core of the storm is expected to approach the coast of southwestern and west-central Mexico on Saturday.
