North Valley students at nationwide universities celebrate educational achievements

Students from Scottsdale and Paradise Valley at universities across the country have accomplished great strides in their educations by graduating and earning honors among other feats.

For example, Scottsdale student Vivek Surve graduated on Dec. 9, 2022, from Campbellsville University.

Campbellsville University is a Kentucky-based Christian university that offers over 100 programs of study, a press release stated.

Degrees are conferred to graduates upon completion of all requirements for graduation.

“A great place to start your journey today is with love,” Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said as she gave the address at two of Campbellsville University’s three commencement ceremonies Dec. 9 in Ransdell Chapel.

To view the ceremonies, visit Campbellsville University’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/campbellsvilleuniversity.

At Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the school announced that Scottsdale resident Tara Bromfield, a member of the class of 2025 majoring in biology and biotechnology, was named to the university’s dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2022 semester.

A press release stated that a total of 2,069 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI’s fall 2022 dean’s list.

The criteria for the list differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a GPA. Instead, WPI defines the dean’s list by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects, according to the release.

Additionally, Ben Sonnenklar, who hails from Scottsdale, was named to the Miami University fall 2022-23 president’s list.

According to a press release, Miami University students who are ranked in the top 3% of undergraduate students within each division for the fall semester 2022-23 have been named to the president’s list recognizing academic excellence.

Sonnenklar is earning a bachelor of science engineering degree in mechanical engineering. Miami University is a public university located in Oxford, Ohio.

Also at Miami University, students who are ranked in the top 20% of undergraduate students within each division for the fall semester 2022-23 have been named to the dean’s list recognizing academic excellence.

Grace Schumacher and Vivi Koepke of Paradise Valley made the dean’s list.

Schumacher is earning a bachelor of science in nursing and Koepke is pursuing a bachelor of arts in strategic communication.

Meanwhile, at the University of Alabama, a total of 501 students enrolled in UA Early College during fall semester 2022 were named to the director’s list with an academic record of 3.6 or higher. These students represent 65% of students enrolled during the fall semester, according to a press release.

Ava Gordon, who attends Cactus Shadows High School, made the 2022 fall list.

The director’s list recognizes students enrolled in classes through the UA Early College program that allows high school students to get a head start on their college courses.

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled can choose from more than 80 different online and on-campus courses and earn up to 30 hours of college credit.

All high school students who apply to and are admitted into UA Early College take their first course, UAEC 200, for free. UAEC 200 is a five-week readiness course that ensures students are prepared for the rigors of college-level studies.

Upon completion, students earn two credit hours from UA, the release stated.
