Costello: Nondiscrimination ordinance in Peoria is past due

Posted

It’s hard to fathom some still object to the piece of the pledge we recite: “With liberty and justice for all,” but not for “those kind of people.”

If they only knew what it feels like to be turned away from a hotel, eatery, doctors, dentists, apartment managers, pet adoption as a gay individual or couples. Some are veterans that fought for your rights.

It’s long past time to enact a nondiscrimination ordinance for equal treatment to all the citizens of Peoria. The sky won’t fall, as it has not for other cities that extend this protection.
