Better road access should help motorists get to future development as new traffic interchanges are now open at 51st and 43rd avenues along the Loop 303, according to officials with the Maricopa Association of Governments.
Two “critical” interchanges are now in place which provides access to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., a press release said.
Construction of the interchanges were funded through Maricopa County’s dedicated half-cent transportation sales tax known as Proposition 400, the press release said. Construction of the interchanges began in September 2022.
“The project provides access to TSMC as well as future development that will come in along 43rd and 51st (avenues) — north and south of the freeway,” said Kelly Taft, spokeswoman at the Maricopa Association of Governments.
TSMC did not contribute funding, Taft said.
The project is “the latest example of the tie” between transportation and economic development, said Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, in the press release.
“With TSMC projected to invest $40 billion by 2026, a project like this demonstrates just how important the half-cent sales tax funding is to ensure regional access that corresponds with growth,” Camacho said in the press release.
