Motorcyclist dies in West Valley collision

Posted

A 33-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon after the motorcycle he was operating collided with two vehicles, and preliminary information suggests speed was a factor, police said.

The crash occurred about 3:45 p.m. March 11 near 59th and Glenrosa avenues. Officers arrived to find Joshua Johnson with serious injuries. He died at the scene.

Phoenix police detectives took over the investigation and said preliminary information suggests that Johnson was on his motorcycle traveling north on 59th Avenue when a vehicle traveling south attempted to make a left turn.

Johnson collided with the vehicle, after which his motorcycle hit a second vehicle, which was also traveling south.

“The speed of the motorcycle appears to be a factor in the collision while impairment is not believed to be a factor,” police stated in a release.

Additional details about the collision remain part of the investigation. Charging decisions will not be made until an accident reconstruction process is completed, police said.
