Mother dies, daughter injured in wrong-way crash in Apache Junction

Posted

A woman is dead and her daughter was in serious condition Saturday after the SUV they were in crashed head-on with a pickup truck driving the wrong way on US 60 in Apache Junction, authorities said.

The crash, which also sent the pickup driver to a trauma center with serious injuries, occurred about 9:50 p.m. Jan. 20 on eastbound US 60 at approximately milepost 199, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

DPS began receiving calls about 9:35 p.m. of a blue pickup truck driving “all over the road” on US-60 at approximately milepost 200, officials stated in a release.

A short time later, callers began telling DPS the truck was traveling the wrong way, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic.  Then about 9:48 p.m., callers said the truck was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

A short time later, the collision occurred, officials said.

“Impairment is being investigated as a possible factor in this investigation; however, the investigation is still very active at this time,” DPS stated in its release.
