Morton “Mitch” Mitchell passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in Scottsdale, Arizona, at age 91. Born and raised in the Bronx, Mitch was the son of a courageous immigrant single mother. After attending Rutgers University and Newark College of Engineering, Mitch built a distinguished engineering career with Bell Labs, General Instrument, and FCI International. He was a brilliant electrical engineer, devoted father and grandfather, loyal friend, mentor, and a mensch in the truest sense of the word. Mitch lived with honesty, humility, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to doing what was right. Above all, he was kind—a gifted listener who made others feel heard, valued, and understood. His warmth, wisdom, tolerance, and integrity inspired deep and enduring friendships. Mitch’s greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his son, Victor; his daughters, Susan and Lisa; his grandchildren; and his beloved twin brother, Bernie, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. He loved dogs, especially Tibetan Terriers, and played an instrumental role in founding a large dog park in Fountain Hills, Arizona. He was also a lifelong and passionate fan of the Indianapolis Colts and New York Yankees. Mitch will be remembered for the decency and compassion with which he treated others. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. A celebration of Mitch’s life is being planned. Please email iwansue@gmail.com for more information.
