INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A 17-year-old has been arrested as the suspect in the aggravated assault of a teen that occurred in May, Mesa police said Saturday.
The Mesa Police Department was notified on Jan. 4 of the May 2023 assault, and detectives spoke to the victim and several witnesses.
That information led authorities to the suspect who was arrested on Jan. 11. He is being held at the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Center, according to a release.
“Incidents of teen violence have been making headlines throughout the East Valley over the last couple of months,” Mesa police said in the release, announcing Chief Ken Cost reached out to the community by video with an update from the department’s investigation “and a plea for our community, parents and teens.”
