Shootings on Sunday left two men dead – one in Phoenix, the other in Sun City, police said.
At about 8 a.m. Oct. 13, Phoenix officers responded to a shooting call in the 4900 block of West Thunderbird Road.
The caller said someone in a vehicle had been shot, and the suspect was in a gray car still in the area.
Officers were directed by a witness to a man entering a gray Nissan vehicle, and they attempted to stop the man who drove slowly away, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department. A pursuit, which included an air unit, began and ended near 9900 West Thunderbird Boulevard.
“The man parked the Nissan in the drive-through of a business and began walking away,” the release stated.
“Officers pulled their patrol vehicle behind the man and began giving commands then the man retrieved a firearm from his person and pointed it at both officers, resulting in one of the officers firing his duty weapon and the man shooting himself.”
The 28-year-old man, who has not been identified, was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital where he died.
Officers at the first shooting location found a 45-year-old man, who was not identified, with at least one gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured.
Phoenix police detectives are continuing to investigate, authorities said.
