MCSO warns of scammers asking for fine payments

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has seen an influx of people claiming to have received calls from the agency on a fine they needed to pay.
The calls are a scam seeking money, MCSO stated in a release.
On April 2, about 45 people reported the scam to the MCSO Civil Division, officials said Wednesday.
“The victims would receive a call with a prerecorded message alleging to be a deputy from MCSO with instructions on how they can be contacted,” the release stated.
“Thankfully, these individuals did not fall victim to these predators and didn’t follow the voicemail instructions to contact the scammers at the number and email they provided.”
MCSO or any other law enforcement or government agency would not call and request payment over the phone for warrants, missed court dates or ticket fines, authorities said.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up the phone, officials advise. Call local law enforcement's non-emergency number to confirm or report the call, MCSO officials stated in the release.
