10 apply for vacant seat on Florence council

The Florence Town Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday to interview 10 applicants for the vacant council seat once held by Michelle Cordes.

Cordes resigned from council March 28 to run for mayor. Since she resigned less than 30 days from the official filing deadline, under state statute the town could not hold a special election this year to replace her. Instead, the council must appoint someone to finish Cordes’ term, which ends December 2026.
