MCSO identifies 83-year-old found dead in Sun City pond

Posted

Sheriff's deputies are investigating after an 83-year-old man was pulled from a pond in Sun City.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said Orville Thomas Gray of Sun City was pulled from a pond around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 near Thunderbird and Del Webb boulevards.

MCSO said deputies responded to a call for service for an individual floating in a pond in the  area.

Deputies and personnel from the Sun City Fire & Medical Department responded and recovered the body.

"Unfortunately the individual, an adult male, was under too long and was pronounced deceased," MCSO stated.

It is unknown how long Mr. Gray had been in the water. There also did not appear to be any missing person's reports for him.

According to the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, the initial manner of death is accident while the initial primary cause of death is drowning in the setting of atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

However, authorities continue to investigate the official cause of death.

County records indicate Mr. Gray lived less than 3 miles south of where his body was found.
