An eight-month investigation led to the arrest of 31 individuals and the seizure of more than a million fentanyl pills, other drugs, guns and cash, authorities announced.

Maricopa County Drug Suppression Taskforce detectives conducted the investigation, which began in September.

The task force seized 1.1 million fentanyl pills, 455 pounds of methamphetamine and other drugs as well as more than $200,000, firearms and several vehicles, according to a release from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Those arrested included drug traffickers and money carriers, the MCSO release stated.

MCDST is comprised of MCSO officers, Buckeye, Tempe, Mesa, Surprise and Casa Grande police departments, Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the DEA “focusing on the disruption and dismantling of mid- to high-level drug trafficking organizations throughout Maricopa County and across the state of Arizona,” the release stated.

“This investigation is the result of the extensive and dedicated work by our MCDST investigators and agency partnerships assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Initiative,” Sheriff Russ Skinner said.

“Fentanyl continues to be a huge issue negatively impacting our communities, I am extremely appreciative of all the proactive work by our staff and partner law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies to combat this epidemic."
