Maricopa County partners with Avondale, Tolleson on housing projects

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved agreements that will provide more than $3.75 million in funding dedicated to adding and rehabilitating housing in the West Valley.
The projects, projected to assist 24 households annually, are funded with a portion of Maricopa County’s federal American Rescue Plant Act (ARPA) dollars.
“Maricopa County has made significant investments in housing solutions for our residents over the past two years,” Chairman Clint Hickman, District 4, shared in a press release.
The programs are aimed at improving housing conditions, ensuring affordability, and promoting sustainable residential development within communities.
“In collaboration with Avondale and Tolleson, we are working to ensure more families have a permanent, safe, and affordable place they can call home,” District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo stated.
Avondale - $2.75 million
The city of Avondale will use $2.75 million in ARPA funds to build eight new single-family homes reserved for purchase by low-income households. Purchasers will undergo homebuyer counseling and may receive down payment assistance based on their income and finances.
Six of the homes will be a continuation of an existing infill housing project known as Legacy Avondale, which broke ground in November 2022 and began selling to low-income households in March of this year.
Tolleson - $1 million
The city of Tolleson will assist with providing home rehabilitation and repair services to an estimated 18 owner-occupied homes. This project is designed to improve housing conditions and ensure that homes remain affordable.
Applicants to this program must have lived in the home one year prior to the application date and earn at or below 80% of AMI.
