Local veteran celebrates 90th birthday before Honor Flight to D.C.

The Anasazi Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, who are based in Glendale, provided breakfast and lunch for the 32 veterans taking the Sept. 26 Honor Flight.

The Anasazi Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution provided breakfast and lunch to the honorees of the latest Honor Flight.
There were 32 veterans of the Korean and Vietnam wars on the Sept. 26 flight, along with 20 guardians to assist them. Anasazi members served breakfast and provided sandwich lunches for them to take with them on the plane.
The primary mission of Honor Flight of Arizona is to pay homage to World War II, Cold War, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans who served in the armed forces by providing support needed for them to complete a three-day journey of honor and remembrance to their memorials in Washington D.C. at no cost to them.
Members of the Hallie Orme Thomas Society, Children of the American Revolution assisted in packing the lunches.
One of the veterans on board celebrated his 90th birthday before boarding the flight. Billy Jones, who served in the Air Force in both Korea and Vietnam, was recognized by Southwest Airlines crew members, Honor Flight volunteers and his co-honorees.
The Anasazi Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is based in Glendale and meets on the third Saturday of every month from September through May.
