Local businesses support grandparents raising grandchildren
Posted
Duet held an event for grandparents raising grandkids March 19.
Giving Bracelets of Scottsdale was one of the local businesses who participated. They treated 24 grandparents and grandchildren to a special event making bracelets. Giving Bracelets’ team of artisans guided the families through the process of making unique handcrafted bracelets out of leather and gemstones. They donated the supplies.
“We really enjoyed teaming up with Duet and hosting our Giving Bracelet workshop,” Lesa Sawyer, Founder of Giving Bracelets of Scottsdale said in a written statement. “It was such an honor to serve our local community and provide a creative space for the grandparents and grandkids to connect and create. We hope the bracelets remind them of the love that surrounds them.”
Over the years, Sawyer has volunteered with numerous local nonprofits and made fiscal contributions, but she wanted to make a more significant impact and find a way to give back full-time.
One day, as she sat in her living room surrounded by the remnants of her former handbag business, something clicked. She could repurpose all the leather strips and make an ongoing impact on children’s lives across the globe. That afternoon, the seeds of Giving Bracelets were planted in her mind.
Giving Bracelets strives to create high-quality, sustainably made bracelets to benefit projects near and dear to Lesa’s heart. Today, Giving Bracelets supports Voices for CASA Children, Project Hawaii, and Angel Wings International. Each of these organizations was founded with a mission to give back in an actionable and sustainable way.
Duet has been in the Valley for 40 years and started its kinship services to help grandparents raising grandkids 26 years ago.
They offer support groups, legal assistance, respite assistance, educational workshops and grandfamily outings.
