Legacy Traditional School—East Mesa, 10707 E. Guadalupe Road, recently held a Book Blast fundraiser to provide students from kindergarten through eighth grade with at least one brand new book of their own to help build their home library ahead of the summer months.
The May 2 fundraiser exceeded its goal, raising $59,464, which enabled the school to purchase 4,881 books for distribution to the school. Two books were provided to the more than 1,000 students, with many earning additional books through donations, according to a release.
Students could earn up to 10 grade- and reading-level-appropriate books through donations. The event was a way to unite the community and ensure that all students have access to books to prepare them for the summer, the release states.
Teachers were also rewarded with supply shopping sprees when their students completed registration, encouraging participation and enthusiasm among the school community.
In addition to the books, students who completed registration were rewarded with glow-in-the-dark blankets, ninja monkey wall crawlers, and remote control disco lights. There were also drawings for mini treasure chests filled with money and other goodies, as well as an iPad giveaway.
