SUN CITY WEST - John B. Ray, 86, of Sun City West, died suddenly Thursday, July 8, 2016, after a brief illness. Born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, in 1930, John received his Bachelor of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and PhD from Indiana University in Bloomington. A professor of Geography, Geo-Politics, Oceanography, and Cartography, John taught at Kent State University in Ohio, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, from which he retired in 1991 before moving to Sun City West, Arizona with his wife Katherine. They enjoyed traveling the world together. An author, John published several books and numerous professional articles. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine T. Ray; son, David; daughter, Barbara; granddaughter, Katherine; and "best buddy", Scout. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Florence Ray; brothers, Harry W. Ray and George Ray; and sisters, Helen Bence and Virginia O'Donnell. Visitation with family was Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West, Ariz. Burial was Friday, July 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Ariz.
