In Loving Memory James H. Meyer, a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather, and beloved friend, passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 86 in Surprise, Arizona. James (Jim) will be fondly remembered for his giving personality, kind heart, good soul, his jokes, and dedication to his family, neighbors and friends. Born on August 20, 1938, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, James was the son of Edward and Mildred Meyer. Throughout his life, Jim embraced the simple pleasures and found contentment in leading a humble existence. Jim attended school at St. Mary’s and Breckenridge High School. During the mid-1950’s he proudly enlisted in the National Guard of Wahpeton, ND and then enlisted in the Army as active duty where he went to Fort Jackson for his training and then to Fort Richardson, Alaska for his assignment. Jim really enjoyed his time in the Army at Fort Richardson that included working his logistics job while playing a lot of organized Hockey. As we understand it he really enjoyed his time in Alaska. Upon returning back to Breckenridge from the Army Jim took on a few different jobs to include being a long-haul truck driver where he got to see a lot of the county. After driving truck throughout the country for a few years Jim decided to work for the railroad, which would be the last leg of his journey in the work force. Jim worked for over 30 years for Burlington Northern railroad. He retired from the railroad and headed for Arizona with his wife Mary where they moved into their new home in 1998. Until his wife Mary’s passing in 2012, Jim and Mary would entertain numerous family and friends in their home in the Sunshine state of Arizona and they also took a number of road trips to Texas, Florida, Colorado, Minnesota to see family and friends. During his retirement Jim indulged in a few hobbies but truly loved working in his garage that was more of a wood working shop. He spent many days creating and making items for loved ones, friends and neighbors. Neighbors will tell you that there was barely a day that went by where Jim was not in the garage making something or he was sitting in his chair sipping some coffee with his radio on enjoying the day. James will be remembered as a kind-hearted and compassionate man who enjoyed the company of loved ones, friends and neighbors. He is survived by his loving sons, Jeff Meyer of Surprise AZ, Jim Meyer of Sarasota, FL and John Meyer (Janie) of Lampasas, TX. Jim’s presence will continue to be cherished by his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mildred Meyer, beloved wife, Mary, with whom he shared many treasured memories. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Edward Meyer and Richard Meyer, and sister Marie Hickman. A private family service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at a future date to honor and celebrate the life of James H. Meyer.
