The new Higley High School academic building will not be ready to open when school starts next month, district officials said.
Higley Unified School District released a statement that the building is now expected to open toward the end of August. School starts July 24.
The district said the delay is due to a hold up in receiving elevator parts.
"We want to assure you that we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition, and we will notify students of any classroom changes as we get closer to the grand opening date,” the district’s statement read.
The academic building will add 12 classrooms and a lecture hall. The $8.57 million building was paid for from capital funds and a bond that was approved in 2013.
