Higley, Gilbert boards set to meet

The governing boards for Higley Unified School District and Gilbert Public Schools meet Tuesday night, but both are expected to be more talk than action.

Higley’s agenda includes a statement from new Superintendent David Loutzenheiser about his request to join the board on the dais, as most superintendents do in the state. But there is no action item scheduled on it.

Loutzenheiser sat on the dais last meeting July 8, his first as the district’s superintendent. That came with the blessing of President Amanda Wade, but drew swift condemnation from Board Member Anna Van Hoek, who saw it as an affront to the board’s position of elected officials who govern the district. Board Member Sara Jarman agreed with Van Hoek.
