Higley Unified School District faces another round of budget cuts, potentially including employee layoffs, as the loss of its maintenance and operations override threatens to exhaust district savings by fiscal 2029.
Superintendent David Loutzenheiser presented the district's financial outlook to the governing board on Oct. 27, warning that maintaining current spending levels is no longer sustainable as override funding disappears and enrollment continues to decline.
The district has been using accumulated savings, known as budget balance carryforward, to preserve staffing levels, class sizes and educational programs despite declining revenue.
