Higley board approves 1-year contract for superintendent after failed search

The Higley Unified School District approved a one-year contract June 5 for Sherry Richards to be its superintendent for the 2024-25 school year.

Richards will be paid $206,000 in the role. The contract notes she has "no legitimate expectancy of employment" beyond the one-year agreement and will be given notice of non-renewal of employment by April 15, 2025, as Richards plans to retire after the school year.

In fact, Richards planned to retire June 30 of this year, but postponed it to accept the superintendency for one more year after the board rescinded its contract offer to Nate Carman to be the next superintendent.
