OPINION — David Martin’s recent opinion piece, Arizona must prepare for freight system its economy depends on, reflects only the position of the Arizona Associated General Contractors and does not align with the actions of local governing bodies or the concerns of the hundreds of thousands of residents who will be directly affected.
At the Nov. 5, 2025, meeting, every Maricopa County Supervisor voted against approving this project by rejecting the proposed Comprehensive Plan amendment. The director of MCDOT emphasized the already failing infrastructure in the Northwest Valley, noting the “F” grade for the Loop 303/U.S. 60 corridor and the lack of near‑term relief.
Both county and Surprise City Council discussions highlighted insufficient communication with BNSF and the absence of funding commitments to address the traffic impacts this project would create.
