Grieving sister: Brother was more than a headline

Michael Cathcart died Sept. 25 after being hit by car in Phoenix

Posted

Maybe it’s because I’m grieving, but every day I Google my brother’s name to see if there is any update on the story about his death Sept. 25 in Phoenix.

I am the sister of Michael Cathcart, and I guess the reason I’m writing is I feel as if none of the reporters who headlined this case took any consideration into who the victim was.

“Pedestrian killed,” “Michael Cathcart was hit while crossing the street.” There is barely any indication of humanity. Yes, he was hit while crossing the street, but he was a father of three, brother of seven siblings, a son and a friend to many.

He was run over around 8 p.m. and left to die. I’m not sure how you could hit a man around 200 pounds and not know it was a bad accident. To not stop and see what you hit is wild to me.

He is native to Boston, where his service will be held. He’s been in Arizona for over a decade where he imprinted on many lives with his humor and wit. He has been missed at home for over a decade and now will be missed for eternity.
