Goodyear to kick off 75th anniversary celebration with virtual ceremony

The city of Goodyear will kick off a nearly year-long 75th anniversary celebration of its Nov. 19, 1946, incorporation with a small ceremony streamed live from its oldest park at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22.

Because of COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, residents are invited to watch the ceremony at Loma Linda Park as it unfolds at or @goodyearzgov on Facebook.

The ceremony will include remarks by a local historian and Goodyear resident, a video with early city developers and a proclamation by Mayor Georgia Lord.

“Goodyear is thriving, and we look forward to celebrating with our residents all the things that make it a great time to be in Goodyear,” Ms. Lord said. “The celebrations might look different with the pandemic, but our common pride and love for the city will still shine.”

Standing 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, the 10 hearts located at parks and other public spaces across the city are hard to miss and are proving to be Instagram-worthy. Each represents a decade of the city’s history and its future.
