An 18-year-old man is in custody after Goodyear police executed a search warrant resulting in the recovery of a large number of fentanyl pills, cocaine, methamphetamine as well as cash and guns.

The bust, which took place Dec. 9 at a Phoenix residence, was announced Wednesday by the Goodyear Police Department.

Police found 271,256 fentanyl pills, but did not release the amount of cocaine and meth found at the scene. The department recovered $255,000 in cash and four guns, according to an announcement released Wednesday.

Brian Meza-Raya was arrested in the bust is facing multiple felony charges involving the sale of illegal narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, weapons charges, conspiracy, money laundering and unlawful flight, according to Goodyear police.

Meza-Raya is awaiting prosecution and is innocent until proven guilty. He is being held on a $75,000 bail.

Goodyear Police Department spokesperson Lisa Berry told the Independent that the department is “grateful for the partnership” with the DEA and the U.S. Attorney General’s office that prosecutes the cases.

The Wednesday announcement stated the Goodyear Police Department has been participating in a “new DEA initiative specifically targeting West Valley narcotics dealers.”

In April, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced Project Wave Breaker with the stated intention of stemming the trade of illegal fentanyl. 

The 11 participating "divisions," which include Phoenix, account for “85% of all synthetic opioids seized by DEA in 2020,” the DEA stated on its website.
