Glendale Prep volleyball aces out Paradise Honors
Posted
By Mike Smith
Glendale Prep volleyball had a clear advantage over 2A Central Region rival Paradise Honors at the net and in defensive coverage Thursday night.
As if that wasn't enough, the Griffins served 13 aces and regularly sent the Panthers scrambling on serves that weren't aces.
It added up to a breeze for the home team in straight sets, 25-7, 25-10, 25-12.
"Serving is the only thing you can control. It's something they have to do on their own. They have to be meticulous and make the other team work for it. (Our players) value serving without question. They love the aces and all that comes with it," Glendale Prep coach Jen Roberge said.
Glendale Prep (26-7, 7-1 region) sophomore libero Brtiney Shawel started the run of stellar serving with three first game aces and 11 straight points on her serve.
She finished with at least one ace in all three games and led all players with six total.
"When I was younger I practiced serving a lot. I really wanted to get good at that part of volleyball. I thought it was really important. I tried to perfect it in certain ways that would help my team out," Shawel said.
Freshman Caitlin Kao (four) and senior Riley Roberge (two) also had multiple aces. Plus this duo assisted sophomore outside hitter Jessica Vargas and junior middle blocker Issa Martel in the attack.
