Current Barrel District councilman Bart Turner – who is not seeking re-election this year – has challenged the election petition signatures of Michael Calles, one of two candidates for the Barrel District seat on July 21.
Specifically, Turner has filed a challenge in Maricopa County Superior Court to Calles’ signature on every page of his petitions that Barrel District residents signed for him to qualify for the July 21 primary election.That signature was to verify Calles had been the one collected the signatures.
Turner said on April 12 that marked differences in handwriting with the signatures and other official markings on the front side of documents, as well as the batches in different neighborhoods on what appear to be different days suggest circulators gathered at least some signatures for Calles.
