Highland High School in Gilbert was put into a brief lockdown Wednesday morning after a student statement caused concern for a staff member.
Gilbert Police Department members swept the school as a precaution, though Gilbert Public Schools officials reported to parents there was nothing to suggest it was anything more than a statement by a student. Nonetheless, police and district security officials initiated the district’s safety protocols as a precautionary measure.
The student statement happened at 10:50 a.m. but the lockdown was lifted at 11:41 a.m. In the interim, the district posted a notice at 11:30 a.m. that the campus was on lockdown, explaining why and police involvement.
“Please be assured that your student is being well cared for by our staff,” the district wrote in its post.
The school day resumed as normal after the lockdown was lifted.
