Deer Valley Unified board discusses school safety updates, mental health awareness

Deer Valley Unified School District officials gave an update last week on the district’s current school safety measures and future measures of random drug searches at high school, safety grants and mental health awareness.

Joey Ohnesorge, director of administrative leadership & services, gave a presentation of school safety drills including the district’s current emergency response plans that is updated annually. Every school in the district must make periodic evacuation, lockdown and lockout drills.

Schools are required to log their drills on a shared spreadsheet with district members in attendance to observe drills in action.
