Gilbert declines to investigate incoming council members

Mayor congratulates newcomers but criticizes their policy statement

The Town of Gilbert will not investigate claims that four council members-elect may have committed violations through their activities before taking office, while Mayor Scott Anderson is pushing back against how they have approached the transition.

The Town Attorney's Office reviewed the allegations raised after council members-elect Beth Goulden, Bill Spence, Joel Coen and Bus Obayomi issued a joint statement July 29 outlining priorities and actions they said they have pursued since winning election.

"The Town Attorney's Office has reviewed the claims concerning possible violations by the upcoming council members and has determined that an investigation is not warranted," the town said in a statement.
