“So You Think You Can Dance” choreographer Spencer Liff, a Phoenix native, is returning home to choreograph Arizona Theatre Company’s “Scrooge! The Musical.”

Liff has earned two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Choreography for his work on the hit FOX show, where he was a resident choreographer for 10 seasons.  His other TV credits include “Dancing with the Stars,” “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” (choreographer and co-producer), “Parks and Recreation,” the Emmy and Academy awards, and more.

Arizona Theatre Company is kicking off the holiday season with “Scrooge! The Musical,” an adaptation of the Oscar-nominated film “Scrooge,” and created by Oscar-winning, Grammy-winning, and Tony-nominated composer Leslie Bricusse.

The production runs from Dec. 9 to Dec. 30 at the Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway. Leading the cast is Tony Award-winning actor Shuler Hensley.

The show follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he goes on a fantastical journey through his life over the course of a single Christmas Eve night. After a warning from the ghost of his business partner Jacob Marley, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future take Scrooge on a musical adventure that leads him toward his hopeful redemption.

“‘Scrooge! The Musical’ is a fresh take on a beloved holiday classic, Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’,” Matt August, Arizona Theatre Company artistic director, shared in a press release. “This season, we’re thrilled to welcome Valley residents to enjoy a production that is sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit.”

Arizona Theatre Company, in its 56th season, is located at the Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway.
