The city of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department thanks all of the families and agencies that came out and participated in this year’s Fourth of July celebration.

Evening events were held at Apache Junction High School’s football field, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive.

The fireworks show was presented by Republic Services.

“The display was fabulous. The show really seemed to be extra enjoyable for everyone at the event — and the surrounding areas — this year coming off the year we have all had with no large-scale special events. A huge thank you goes out to Republic Services for their continued event and community partnership with the city of Apache Junction for 11 straight years now,” according to a release.

“Thank you to the band Corporate Lockdown who entertained the crowd with some great music all night long and to lead singer Jonathan Evertsen who provided a stirring rendition of the National Anthem right before the fireworks display. Additional supporters of this event helped us to make sure that we had a fun and safe celebration — Apache Junction Unified School District, Apache Junction Police Department, Superstition Fire and Medical District, Arizona Water Co., Superstition Mountains Community Facilities District No. 1, and the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. Without the support of all of our sponsors and partners, this important community event would not have been possible,” it stated.

Activity results include:

Sand volleyball tournament

Local teams competed in the city’s annual Fourth of July sand volleyball tournament at Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center, 1091 W. Southern Ave. The winners of the four-person co-ed tournament were:

• First place, Set Panthers; and
• Second place, Set to Kill

Float-decorating contest

Apache Junction Parks and Recreation also offered a bike and wagon float decorating contest during the Fourth of July festivities.

“Patriotic participants of all ages came out to show their pride for America by decorating their favorite bike or wagon,” the release states.

The winners were:

• Most patriotic, Lucee Earles;
• Best decorated, Xavier Govereau;
• Most creative, Aydan Govereau; and
• Best overall, Addison Karpi.
