Florence schools appoints new director

The Florence Unified School District Governing School Board unanimously voted to approve the hiring of Toby Haugen as the director of human resources beginning on July 1.

Haugen is principal of Florence High School

“Toby Haugen has been an asset to the FUSD family ever since he began his career with us back in 2004.  FUSD continuously supports our employees by enabling them to grow into outstanding leaders and Toby Haugen is a perfect example of these efforts,” stated FUSD Superintendent Chris Knutsen in a press release. “I am confident in his ability to represent our employees and to strengthen our district’s work force as we experience growth in the Florence and San Tan Valley communities.”

Haugen was born and raised in North Dakota. After high school, he attended the University of North Dakota where he studied and earned his bachelor’s degree in K-12 music education, according to the release.

He began his education career in 2004 with FUSD as a band director. Haugen has taught elementary, middle and high school students.

During his career he has returned to school twice to earn his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University, and an education specialist degree from Arkansas State University. Both degrees hold a focus in educational leadership.
