The Mesa Police Department increased its presence at Mesa High on Monday after receiving several calls from parents regarding a possible threat at the school.
The parents reported on Sunday “there was a rumor circulating on social media about a threat that was originally for prom (on May 11) but due to a large police presence at the prom, the threat was changed to Monday,” police stated in a release.
Officers notified Mesa Public Schools staff, police said.
In addition to more police, increased school and district security was added Monday at the school.
Detectives have been assigned to investigate.
Police reported Monday afternoon that “nothing out of the ordinary has happened so far.”
