Festival of the Arts brings paintings, pottery, pinot to Tempe this weekend

The Festival of the Arts will return to downtown Tempe this weekend.

“I encourage everyone to join us at the spring Tempe Festival of the Arts and meet makers, artisans, people with a passion for their work,” Kate Borders, president and CEO of Downtown Tempe Authority.

“Hear their stories, take home treasures that will forever remind you of that person and the connection you had with them.”

The streets of downtown Tempe will be filled with artwork, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, pottery and more from about 300 juried artists from around the country.

The event runs Friday-Sunday, March 31 until April 2.

Chalk murals inspired by the theme, "Gray Is Just a Color and Age is Just a Number,” will be on display, and visitors will vote on their favorites.

The festival’s featured artist Kim Nickens will showcase her work inspired by the ancient artform of quilling, where people would use the quill of a feather to roll paper, according to a release.

On Saturday and Sunday, children can have a hands-on art experience at Kids Block, where young artists can create their own works, event organizers said.

Additionally, the Young Collectors Gallery will feature original pieces from professional artists available for purchase for $5.

The festival also will have a wine tasting on Saturday and Sunday, live music on multiple stages, entertainers such as henna artists, magicians, and caricature artists, and food trucks, beverages and snacks, according to event organizers.

Admission to the festival is free. For more: https://tempefestivalofthearts.com/.
