Eve’s Place to close Sun City thrift store

Eve’s Treasures, the thirft store that was a fundraising resource and more for Eve’s Place, will close its doors in June.
The store, 10765 W. Peoria Ave. in the Sun Bowl Shopping Center, sold clothing and a variety of other items donated by Northwest Valley residents. Facility officials last year added Eve’s Corner to the store, providing special items for domestic violence victims and a place for them to chat with other victims.
“This decision, although incredibly painful, is necessary as the cost of rent continues to increase each and every year,” stated Laura Horsley, Eve’s Place executive director, in an email.
The store will close June 30. As a result, no additional donations can be received at the store location — that ended April 15, according to Ms. Horsley.
“As we wrap up our work at Eve’s Treasures, we will be having sales regularly and are working to find alternative ways for you to continue to donate some items to the victims,” Ms. Horsley stated.
While those opportunities are being researched, donors can take Eve’s Place donations to the Lutheran Thrift Store in the Sun Bowl Shopping Center of the Valley View Community Food Bank Thrift Store, 12321 N. Grand Ave., El Mirage.
“We are very sad the store is closing, but Eve’s Place will continue to provide services to victims of domestic, sexual and teen dating violence as stated in our mission statement,” Ms. Horsley stated.
Eve’s Treasures has been a part of the Eve’s Place agency since November 2006 and has provided an opportunity to raise funds for victims of domestic, sexual and teen dating violence, Ms. Horsley explained. It has also served as a place for domestic violence victims to find household items when moving and clothes to replace the ones left behind.
