The driver responsible for a wrong-way crash on Interstate 17 that killed three Grand Canyon University students was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Vincent Ian Acosta, 27, had pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in the accident that killed Abriauna Hoffman, Magdalyn Ogden and Hunter Balberdi on Oct. 10, 2022, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Acosta was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-17 when he crashed into the car that carried the three women, all freshmen at GCU. Acosta's blood-alcohol content at the time was three times the legal limit of .08, according the MCAO.
