Arizona trooper uses grappler to stop car on I-10 in Tempe

Posted

An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper used a grappler to stop a car traveling more than 100 mph early Wednesday morning along Interstate 10 in Tempe.

Troopers had followed the car, but officials said there was “never a pursuit.”

The woman driving the car was arrested for criminal speed among other charges, according to a release. She was booked into Pinal County Jail.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took custody of the four passengers, DPS stated.

A grappler is a heavy nylon net that law enforcement officers have on the front of their vehicles.  When it is deployed, it wraps around a rear tire of the suspect's vehicle.
