PHOENIX - Friday night, top seed Kellis learned what the rest of 5A painfully realized in the last two years - an early lead on Canyon View needs to get into double digits by half.
Kellis held the Jaguars without a field goal for more than 10 minutes to start the game. The Cougars racked up 12 steals. Yet they led only 21-17.
Inevitably #3 Canyon View tied it at 37 late as junior guard Aaliyah Rogers scored all nine of her points. Then Rogers drove and fed senior guard Cynthia Tewksbury for her third trey of the final 10 minutes, junior forward Jaila Flowers made a layup and one and the Jaguars repeated with a 44-40 win.
