Desert Ridge High School, a Gilbert Public School at 10045 E. Madero Ave. in Mesa, secured the Division II Marching Band State Championship hosted by the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association.

The band earned the state title after its performance on Nov. 18 at the ABODA State Marching Championships held at Glendale Community College, according to a release.

The Desert Ridge High Marching Band secured the Division II title by scoring 79.938 and earning the most points in four of the five award categories: music performance, visual performance, general effect and auxiliary.

The school’s win in the Division II Marching Band State Championship is the first in Desert Ridge High’s history. The DRHS Marching Band was also named Division 3A champions by the Arizona Marching Band Association.

“Winning the Marching Band State Championship is more than just a trophy; it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our talented students,” Stephanie Campbell, band director and teacher at Desert Ridge High School, said in the release. “Their commitment to excellence has not only made my students champions, but it has instilled immense pride in me as their director.”

The Desert Ridge High Marching Band is a decorated ensemble, having been ranked in first place for four consecutive weeks while finishing the 2023 season undefeated. The band earned first place in various competitions throughout the year, including the Stampede of Sound Marching Invitational, the Black Hawk Regiment Invitational, the Williams Field Competition and the Crown of the Sun Marching Invitational.

Desert Ridge High School, along with the other 38 Gilbert Public Schools, is committed to offering Arizona families an educational choice that provides quality education, athletics, and extracurricular activities, the release states.
