Dawn Prince named Gilbert's interim town manager

Gilbert Town Council has appointed Dawn Prince as interim town manager, effective Jan. 3, following the upcoming departure of longtime Town Manager Patrick Banger.

Prince, who has served as Gilbert’s assistant town manager for the past five years, brings more than two decades of experience in state and local government.

In her current role, she oversees police, fire, the Gilbert Family Advocacy Center, community resources and emergency management, and previously provided leadership to the town’s budget, finance, and parks and recreation teams.

Before joining Gilbert, Prince served the city of Douglas as interim city manager and deputy city manager, where she managed all city departments and advanced strategic initiatives in economic development, housing, library services and human resources.

She also spent 12 years with the city of Peoria, holding leadership positions in human resources, the city manager’s office and the Neighborhood and Human Services Department.

Prince holds a bachelor’s degree in history and education from Charter Oak State College and a master’s degree in human resources management from Webster University.

“I am honored to serve Gilbert during this transition,” Prince said in a release. “Our community is strong because of the dedication of our staff and residents, and I look forward to working together to ensure continuity, stability and continued excellence in the services we provide.”

Prince’s appointment comes as Banger prepares to leave Gilbert on Jan. 2, 2026, to become city manager for Glendale.

“I leave Gilbert with deep gratitude and pride," Banger, reflecting on his time as manager, said in the release. "Together, we’ve strengthened the town’s financial condition, built landmark parks, redeveloped the Heritage District and advanced economic development initiatives. Gilbert’s best days are still ahead, and this community will always hold a special place in my heart."

Council has outlined a three-phase transition plan. Prince will serve as interim leader while a nationwide search for a permanent town manager begins in December.

The process will include public forums to engage residents and staff, with a final appointment expected by April or May 2026.

“Patrick’s contributions to Gilbert are immeasurable,” Mayor Scott Anderson said in the release. “As we move forward, Dawn’s leadership will provide stability while we carefully select the next town manager to guide Gilbert’s future.”
