Cussen: This virus is deadly, please take it seriously

Aargh. Why is the easy/simple always corrupted into the hard/complicated? Of course, I am talking about masks.

In a supermarket I was subjected to a conversation with a total stranger who wore her mask on her chin. I asked her politely to pull up the mask and she got angry and stated that I was not her boss, while I begged her, “Please, ma’am.” I then fled and told a manager about it; her response was “Well, this is Pinal County; there’s no requirement.” Really? Is this the promo you want for your county?

There is a sign in the entrance stating customers must wear masks. This is private property; the supermarket has the right to make rules — I just wish they would enforce them.

I wonder if the store owner knows how much more business they are losing from obedient people like me than what they gain from rule-breakers. I won’t go there again. This may be the Southwest, but it is not a Hollywood Western starring John Wayne.

So now I humbly beg to send a message to mask-haters, sounding suspiciously like my mother, as follows: “OMG. Do you mean to tell me, right here in front of God and everybody, that you are such a spoiled brat that you cannot follow a few simple rules? If you think this is such a violation of your rights, then I will accompany you to your car and help you remove the seat belts from it. And then you will start a petition to repeal all the DUI laws and release all drug pushers from prison. Like you say, how dare anybody tell me what I can or do with or put into or on my body. Wanna go there? Really?!”

Responsible behavior in public from sensible adults is needed, not tantrums and defiance. This virus is deadly — please take it seriously.
