Couple leads percussion workshop at HD South

Posted

Former Arizona State University professor and Director of Communications at ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts Duane Roen and his wife, Maureen Roen, a percussionist with the Chandler Symphony Orchestra, will lead an interactive music-making workshop Oct. 28 at HD South.

Percussionists of all ages will learn how to make and play simple percussion instruments from items found around the home.

At the beginning of the workshop, the Roens will show some percussion instruments that they have built, and everyone is welcome to play them.

Following that, they will help class participants make simple instruments using everyday objects.

The workshop will end with a brief concert performed by all the budding percussionists alongside the Roens. Materials will be provided.  Ages 6 & up

The workshop will last from 10:30 a.m.-noon and is free, though registration is required through the HD South website.
