Suspect involved with Tempe DNC office shootings indicted

The suspect in a shooting of a Democratic campaign office in Tempe has been indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced on Oct. 30 that Jeffrey Michael Kelly has been indicted for the shootings that recently took place at the Democratic National Committee office in Tempe.

The 60-year-old Kelly was arrested Oct. 22 by Tempe Police Department detectives for shootings that occurred at the DNC’s Tempe office in September and October.

Suspect involved with Tempe DNC office shootings indicted

The suspect in a shooting of a Democratic campaign office in Tempe has been indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced on Oct. 30 that Jeffrey Michael Kelly has been indicted for the shootings that recently took place at the Democratic National Committee office in Tempe.

The 60-year-old Kelly was arrested Oct. 22 by Tempe Police Department detectives for shootings that occurred at the DNC’s Tempe office in September and October. 

According to a county attorney release, Tempe Police say the shootings occurred on three occasions between Sept. 16 and Oct. 6.

“Kelly first used a CO2-powered gun, then escalated to firearms for the second and third shootings. Over the course of the three shootings, Kelly fired more than 20 times, causing damage to the building’s windows, front doors and walls,” the release stated.

On Oct. 28, a grand jury indicted Kelly on the following charges:

  • One count of terrorism - a class two felony;
  • Three counts of discharge of a firearm at a structure - a class three dangerous felony;
  • Three counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm - a class six dangerous felony;
  • One count of criminal damage - a class five felony.

The defendant is currently being held on two $500,000 cash-only bonds, according to the release.
